Software engineer in Kaunas, Lithuania

I am Tauras Giedraitis, a software engineer based in Kaunas, Lithuania. I hold a bachelor's degree in Software Systems from Kaunas University of Technology and I am continuing there with a master's in Software Systems Engineering.

By day I work as an IT specialist at Kauno klinikos, the largest hospital in the country. The work is full-stack Java and Spring beside C# and .NET, on Oracle databases I also administer — and it is owned rather than assigned: I take a system from the request to the deployment and I am the person who hears about it when it is wrong. Software in a hospital has to work on the first try, because somebody is waiting on it.

Before that I interned at UAB "E-bros", building across React and Node.js on MongoDB and delivering in Jira sprints, which was the first place my code had to fit somebody else's schedule rather than my own.

My bachelor's thesis was Rayxix, an interactive Vulkan path tracer written in C++20 from an empty CMake file — hardware ray tracing, a GGX microfacet BSDF, four denoisers and a deterministic benchmark to choose between them with. It is the clearest example of the thing I keep being drawn to: a system where correctness and the way it looks are the same problem.

That is really the shape of what I enjoy — the whole stack, from the query that feeds an interface to the pixel that draws it. What I care about most is the part many projects skip: the detail. The easing curve on a transition, the way a form behaves when the network is slow, the shape of an error message.

Alongside engineering I model in Blender, design in Illustrator and cut video in Premiere Pro. That artistic side is not a hobby kept separate from the code — it is why my interfaces look the way they do.
